Description

Like many others the Orion Nebula was my first deep space image - in my case captured in 2021. This is my second attempt at this iconic target capture over two consecutive nights.
I blended 60s and 5s luminance exposures to cool down the core of the luminance, RGB and HA images which were then stretched, processed and combined.I don't like the core too cold so my biggest challenge ended up deciding where to balance the core brightness with the rest of the image. The image was processed entirely in PI. Stretched using a combination of HT and Arcsinhstretch to preserve colour with almost no additional saturation required. A total of 7hrs 50 minutes integration time which includes the 20x5min HA for the wispy nebulosity in the image.
Calibrated using darks, flats and bias frames in the usual fashion.
Bortle 2/3 transition skies. SQM at zenith read 21.55.
Good seeing.
